About Us

I formed ONZL after 20 years working in various private sector and government organisations in a variety of roles. My observation is that it does not matter whether an organisation belongs to the private or public sector, resourcing is the same. All organisations are constrained to resource at a critical mass level and are therefore faced with constant prioritisation issues which can often result in hasty, short term resourcing decisions.

This is particularly true of industry groups and associations which I have had a lot to do with over the years in my various roles. I observed that associations need the same range of resources as any business today, however the problem often facing them is they need small amounts of a wide range of skills, often on an adhoc basis. It’s not cost effective to hire staff because of the number of hours involved and the wide range of skill sets required.

Members of the association provide invaluable input, but they still have their day jobs to do and problems can arise with conflicting priorities as the industry association, whilst important, is often not an area of key focus to their own business. For this reason, it is important to focus member volunteers input on the areas of the industry association where they can add the most value which is normally on subject matter issues, not infrastructure, operations or analysis. Finally, there is often the question of the need for independence.

What I needed back then in my industry group roles was an organisation that had a good skill base and network, that I could engage, not to just put an individual into the industry group but to actively participate as an organisation within it. I was looking for a cost effective, capable and nimble organisation that would not “break the bank” with their fees.

I have formed such an organisation - ONZL.

If you are responsible for an industry group or association (or even starting a new project or work stream that needs independent resource), and would like some capable, cost effective help then give us a call.

I look forward to meeting and discussing how we can work with you to meet your organisations goals.

Susan Wells, Director ONZL
